Residential Houses ‘Am Markt’

Preliminary Design

2017

Am Markt is a former village center in a northern German village. Due to a local shift of the center and a generational change of the owners, the trade business, which has been running for decades, will not be continued. Therefore, the existing commercial building is to be replaced by newly created apartments.

The preliminary design incorporates the typical local architectural characteristics. The nordic red brickwork and gable roof are related to many local buildings, including the existing building. Design elements from this are also taken over, for example, a partial facade made of ceramic building blocks or a partially rotated brickwork. In a terraced house construction, six new units for small families, couples or single people are to be created.
