The competition called for a secondary school in Benga, Malawi. All rooms are formed by a repeatable U-shaped masonry structure that contains all the connections needed for ceiling, roof and façade. The U-shaped elements are self-supporting and self-bracing. Varying depths of masonry create a differentiated appearance despite the strict arrangement of the walls. Because the masonry carries itself, the spaces between can be designed freely in form and material, independent of the main structure.
