The competition called for a preschool in Xai-Xai district for children with disabilities and children at risk of social exclusion. The design draws on traditional round buildings: in Mozambique, the round house, and the kitchen in particular, is a place for coming together, talking and celebrating. The preschool adopts these qualities, as inclusion begins with communication. Two round clusters of classrooms enclose sheltered courtyards where children meet, and openings between the classes allow eye contact across the school, so that nobody feels alone.
